Emirates Cadet Pilot Programme (EFTA)
Prepared exclusively for cadets and parents evaluating the prestigious Emirates Flight Training Academy Programme.
Programme Snapshot
Important Funding Note
EFTA is the most expensive ab-initio programme in this guide at USD 181,650. This is all-inclusive (accommodation, meals, visa, uniforms). No scholarships are available for international candidates. UAE Nationals qualify for a fully-sponsored Emirates National Cadet Pilot Programme (zero cost). Ensure full funding is arranged before signing; EFTA does not offer payment plans or income-share agreements for international students.
Why EFTA Stands Apart
The Emirates Flight Training Academy is one of the most advanced dedicated pilot training facilities in the world. Spread across 164,000 sqm at Dubai South, it includes its own 1,800-metre runway and an independent ATC tower.
Jet Training from Day One
Cadets progress from the Cirrus SR22 piston directly to the Embraer Phenom 100EV twin-jet, giving more jet hours than any comparable ab-initio programme globally.
EASA Dual-Licence (New 2025)
Graduates now receive both GCAA and EASA licences via the Egnatia Aviation partnership, opening the entire European airline market without conversion.
Purpose-Built Campus
All cadets live on campus. No shared facilities with a commercial airport; training pace is self-determined, not weather/slot dependent.
Strong Placement Record
Over 120 EFTA graduates are now flying as First Officers on Emirates A380 and 777 — the strongest placement record of any ab-initio programme in the Middle East.
Career Reality Check
Completing EFTA does not guarantee a job at Emirates. The airline's brochure says graduates 'have the opportunity to apply'. The pipeline is strong, but the post-graduation selection process is competitive. However, the new EASA dual-licence means all graduates have a European fallback option, significantly de-risking the investment.
Eligibility Criteria
Entry Route A — High School
- Age 18–21
- Minimum 80% in final year
- Must have studied Mathematics and Physics
Entry Route B — University
- Age 21–26
- Minimum GPA 3.0
- Science or Engineering major required
| English Proficiency | IELTS 6.0 overall (not below 5.5 in any component) if non-native English speaker; TOEFL PBT 510 / IBT 6.5 accepted. |
| Medical & Physical | Must pass GCAA Class 1 Medical; BMI 29 or less. Minimum height 160 cm. Corrected or uncorrected vision meeting GCAA standards. |

Preparation Tip: Score Calculation
The 80% high school score is a hard floor — applications below this are rejected at initial screening. If applying with an Indian 10+2 score, confirm your percentage is calculated correctly (CBSE/ISC/State boards accepted).
The Selection Journey
A rigorous three-stage process to evaluate cognitive, technical, and psychological readiness.

Interview: Research EFTA's campus, the Phenom 100EV progression, and EASA dual-licence to show genuine, specific interest.
Training Programme Structure
270+ flight hours leading to a CPL, IR, ATPL Theory, and MCC.
Phase 1: Theory
14 ATPL knowledge subjects. Conducted at EFTA's classroom facility, Sunday–Thursday 08:30–16:30.
Phase 2: Single-Engine
Primary flight training on the Cirrus SR22 G6 (glass-cockpit). Building core flying and navigation skills.
Phase 3: Twin-Jet
Direct progression to the Embraer Phenom 100EV. Builds massive jet-aircraft experience, unique to EFTA.
Phase 4: MCC
Simulator-based multi-crew training, developing CRM, SOPs, and workload management in a two-pilot cockpit.

Career Outcomes
The Emirates FO Pathway
Over 120 EFTA graduates fly as FOs on Emirates' widebody fleet (A380 and 777). Direct widebody entry is a progression that takes 8–15 years at most European legacy carriers.
- Starting base salary: USD 6,000–8,000/mo (tax-free)
- Housing/transport: USD 2,000–3,000/mo
- Combined package: ~USD 101,000–146,000/year
European & Global Options (Post-2025)
The EASA dual-licence means graduates can apply directly to Ryanair, Lufthansa, easyJet, Air France, and any EASA-regulated operator without licence conversion.
