Section 01

What Is the Emirates Cadet Pilot Program (EFTA)?

In short: the Emirates cadet pilot program is run by Emirates Flight Training Academy (EFTA) at Dubai South. It is a full-time, residential integrated ATPL program for ab-initio cadets, combining theory, single-engine and multi-engine flying, Jet Orientation and Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) training in about 104 weeks. The published international fee is USD 220,500 including 5% UAE VAT. Graduation does not guarantee a job with Emirates or Flydubai.

A progressive training fleet

Single-engine foundations, multi-engine competency and advanced jet-orientation exposure.

Funding and career reality

International training is self-sponsored. EFTA does not publish a scholarship or financial program for international applicants, and graduation does not guarantee employment with Emirates or Flydubai. Families should arrange the complete funding plan before signing a training contract.

Section 02

Why Emirates Flight Training Academy

The strongest differentiators are the dedicated training environment, modern fleet, on-campus lifestyle and direct progression from ab-initio training into multi-engine and jet-orientation phases.

Integrated Training Journey

Ground school, Cirrus SR22 G6, Diamond DA42, Jet Orientation and MCC are delivered within one structured pathway.

Dedicated Campus

Cadets study, fly, live and train in one academy environment with classrooms, accommodation and recreation facilities.

Advanced Aircraft Progression

Cadets build foundations on the SR22, move into DA42 multi-engine training and later complete Jet Orientation.

Airline-Oriented Development

MCC, crew roles, communication, workload management and operational thinking prepare cadets for airline recruitment.

Note: this is not jet training from day one. Cadets first complete theoretical and piston-aircraft phases; the Phenom P100EV appears later as part of the Jet Orientation phase.

Aircraft and airport infrastructure at a purpose-built flight training environment

Purpose-built flight training environment

Dedicated operational facilities, classrooms, simulators, maintenance support and campus accommodation.

Section 06

EFTA Selection Process: Five Assessment Steps, Online First, Then Dubai

The current official process is hybrid. Candidates complete three online stages before travelling to Dubai for written, aptitude, language, eye and medical assessments.
  1. 1

    HireVue Interview (online)

Recorded digital interview used as an early communication and motivation screen.

  2. 2

    Psychometric Assessment (online)

Online assessment of behavioural preferences and suitability indicators.

  3. 3

    One-to-One Interview (online)

Live interview covering motivation, communication and personal readiness.

  4. 4

    Written & COMPASS Tests (Dubai)

Physics, Maths, mental Maths and COMPASS aptitude testing at EFTA.

  5. 5

    Language, Eye & Medical (Dubai)

Language assessment plus GCAA eye and medical examinations.

Dubai assessment travel is applicant-funded

Applicants arrange their own visa, travel and accommodation for the Dubai stage. Paid assessment fees are non-refundable and are charged in UAE dirhams through the application portal. Confirm the latest amount before payment.

Section 07

Emirates Cadet Medical: GCAA Eye & Medical Assessment

The final Dubai assessment includes eye and medical examinations under GCAA requirements. A medical held with another authority does not remove the need for the GCAA examination.
What is checked

Medical areas

  • Vision and colour vision
  • Hearing and ENT
  • Cardiovascular checks
  • General fitness
  • Blood and urine tests
  • Neurological review
Our advice

Screen early before booking Dubai travel

Pilots Academy recommends an early aviation-medical self-screening in India, especially for colour vision, distant vision and cardiovascular concerns. This does not replace the required GCAA assessment. See our Class 1 medical requirements guide.

Section 10

Graduation Qualification & Emirates Career Reality

Know exactly what you graduate with, and what is not guaranteed.
Qualification on graduation

What EFTA graduates receive

The official FAQ describes the following graduation certification under the standard EFTA program:

  • GCAA-approved Commercial Pilot Licence with Multi Instrument Rating
  • ATPL ground-course completion certificate
  • Multi-Crew Cooperation course-completion certificate
  • The flying licence is a standalone licence, not an academic degree
Emirates First Officer opportunity

An opportunity, not a guarantee

EFTA cadets have an exclusive opportunity to interview for Emirates First Officer roles after graduation when they meet the applicable requirements.

  • This is an opportunity to apply and interview
  • Employment is not guaranteed
  • Available roles and requirements can change
  • No guaranteed Emirates placement

EASA pathway

Not every graduate automatically receives an EASA dual licence. Any EASA pathway, additional training, partner arrangements, cost and eligibility should be verified directly for the applicable intake. For earnings after training, see our Emirates and international pilot salary breakdown.

Section 11

Can Indian Students Join Emirates? GCAA vs DGCA Licence

Indian candidates should evaluate both the EFTA pathway and their long-term licensing destination before investing.
  1. 1

    Verify academic eligibility

Confirm age, high-school percentage or GPA, subject combination and accepted English score before applying.

  2. 2

    Complete early medical screening

Use an aviation medical in India as early self-screening, while remembering that the GCAA assessment remains compulsory.

  3. 3

    Plan the Dubai assessment budget

Include visa, flights, local stay, assessment charges and medical-related expenses.

  4. 4

    Understand the licence destination

EFTA’s standard graduation licence is GCAA-approved. Returning to India may involve separate DGCA conversion requirements.

  5. 5

    Build a realistic career plan

Emirates recruitment, other international airline requirements and an Indian fallback route should be assessed separately.

Do not treat the GCAA licence as a DGCA CPL

The licence issued after EFTA graduation is governed by the UAE GCAA. Applicants who later want to use the qualification for an Indian airline pathway should obtain current DGCA conversion guidance before committing to the program. The direct route for a fresher is the EFTA cadet program; the other route is to build airline experience first and apply to Emirates later as an experienced First Officer.

Section 12

EFTA Written Test and Aptitude Preparation

EFTA officially lists Physics, Maths, mental Maths and COMPASS testing. The topic breakdown below is Pilots Academy preparation guidance.
Written examinations

Maths, Physics and English

  • Mathematics: algebra, trigonometry, geometry, arithmetic, unit conversion and speed under time pressure
  • Mental Mathematics: fast numerical operations, estimation, percentages, ratios and error-free calculation
  • Physics: mechanics, Newton’s Laws, forces, momentum, optics, electricity, fluids and Bernoulli’s principle
  • English / Language: grammar, comprehension, vocabulary, sentence structure and clear spoken communication

Preparation focus: revise Class 11–12 concepts for understanding and speed. Do not rely only on memorised definitions.

COMPASS & psychometric

Aptitude skills

  • Spatial orientation: interpret position, direction and orientation from changing perspectives
  • Abstract reasoning: identify rules, patterns and relationships in visual or numerical sequences
  • Working memory: hold, recall and manipulate information accurately under pressure
  • Psychomotor control: make smooth corrections while coordinating visual inputs and control movements

Preparation focus: use short daily practice sessions. Accuracy, composure and consistent control matter more than aggressive speed.
