What Makes the Flydubai Program Distinct
Five characteristics that set the Flydubai Ab Initio track apart from other Gulf cadet pathways.
Boeing 737 focus
Cadets train specifically on the aircraft type Flydubai actually operates, making the transition to line flying more direct than generic ab initio programs.
Emirates Group connection
Flydubai is co-owned by Emirates, creating a potential “flow-up” pathway to Emirates after completing the 5-year contract and logging 3,000 hours on the 737.
Purpose-built training centre
The Flydubai Flight Training Centre in Dubai houses Boeing 737 full-motion simulators, computer-based training modules and flight training devices.
Self-sponsored MPL
Unlike legacy airline-sponsored programs that cover all fees, Flydubai’s Ab Initio track for non-UAE nationals is self-funded, similar to Air Arabia’s model.
Fast-growing network
With 140+ destinations and a massive order book, career opportunities within Flydubai are expanding rapidly for cadets who complete the program.
Flydubai Cadet Pilot Eligibility for Indian and International Students
The non-negotiable baseline before anything else is considered.
| Criterion | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Age | 17 to 30 years old at time of application |
| Education | High School graduate (10+2 equivalent) with minimum 70% score or GPA 3.0+ |
| Subjects | Mathematics and Physics must have been studied in final year of high school |
| English | Fluent in English (written and spoken); IELTS or equivalent may be required |
| Medical | Must be able to obtain a GCAA Class 1 Medical Certificate before training commencement |
| Height | Not officially published; standard GCAA aviation medical norms apply |
| Nationality | Open to all nationalities; UAE Nationals have a separate sponsored track |
| UAE Nationals only | Must hold UAE passport and Emirates ID; male candidates must have completed Military National Service |
Preparation tip
Height and medical fitness are checked at the very first stage. Get a GCAA Class 1 medical assessment done before applying: a failed medical after assessment fees are paid is non-refundable.
Application and documents checklist
Most candidates who fail at the initial stage are missing documents, not ability.
- Valid passport (at least 6 months validity)
- High school leaving certificate and transcripts showing overall percentage/GPA, attested by the issuing authority
- Proof of Mathematics and Physics study in final year of high school
- Recent passport-size photograph (white background, no glasses)
- Up-to-date CV/resume
- IELTS or equivalent English language certificate (if non-native English speaker)
- UAE Nationals additionally require: Emirates ID, Military Service completion certificate (males), and NOC if currently employed
Can Indian Students Apply for the Flydubai Cadet Pilot Program?
Yes. Flydubai’s ab initio (MPL) program is self-sponsored for non-UAE nationals, so Indian and other international students can apply and pay their own training fees. The published criteria for the 2026 window were: age 17–30, a high-school (Class 12) diploma with at least 70% (or GPA 3.0), fluent English, and the ability to obtain a GCAA Class 1 medical, which is taken in Dubai.
Before applying, check the pilot eligibility requirements and the Class 1 medical requirements, and keep an eye on the official Flydubai ab initio page for the next intake.
Flydubai Cadet Pilot Program Fees and Cost (AED and INR)
In short: Flydubai has not published official 2026 fees. Comparable Middle East MPL programs cost AED 450,000–600,000, about ₹1.0–1.4 crore, and the GCAA Class 1 medical is extra (AED 1,500–3,000). Confirm the current fee on the official careers site before paying anything.
The Flydubai Ab Initio Program is self-funded for non-UAE nationals. Official fee figures for the 2026 intake have not been published; always confirm current fees directly at careers.flydubai.com.
Comparable MPL programs
Programs in the Middle East (Air Arabia, similar) typically range from AED 450,000–600,000 (approximately ₹1.0–1.4 crore at current exchange rates).
What is included
The Flydubai package includes training, accommodation during certain phases, and materials, reducing out-of-pocket living costs during training.
Medical certificate cost
A GCAA Class 1 Medical Certificate in Dubai is a separate cost, typically AED 1,500–3,000.
Financing and fee tip
Confirm the full fee breakdown, payment schedule, and refund policy in writing before paying any deposits. Ask specifically: is any portion of the fee refundable if you fail a medical after enrolment? What happens if a training phase is delayed?

Flydubai Online Assessment Battery
Evaluates the cognitive and psychomotor traits essential for safe, effective piloting. Flydubai uses a platform similar to those employed by other Gulf carriers.
Logical / abstract reasoning
Pattern recognition, sequences, and rule identification under time pressure.
Verbal reasoning
Understanding and interpreting written information accurately and quickly.
Multitasking
Managing multiple simultaneous tasks, analogous to cockpit workload management.
Numerical reasoning
Speed and accuracy with numbers, unit conversions, and applied maths problems.
Working memory
Holding and manipulating information in real time under time constraints.
Psychomotor / coordination
A computer-based joystick/control task that simulates basic aircraft control. Smooth, consistent inputs score better than fast but jerky corrections.
English language proficiency
A written English component covering grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and sentence structure. Aviation-context passages are common.
Preparation tips
Practice questions for each sub-type separately before the assessment. For multitasking, stabilise the primary task first before attending to secondary inputs, the same principle you will use in a real cockpit. For the psychomotor task, small, precise corrections outperform large reactions: use a gaming joystick or ADAPT simulator practice software to build muscle memory. For English, read aviation news (ch-aviation, The Aviation Herald, Simple Flying) daily in the weeks before the assessment.
Flydubai On-Demand Video Interview
You will be sent a link to record video responses to a pre-set list of questions. There is no live interviewer: you record your answers within a set time window, and assessors review recordings later.
Assessment criteria
- Clear, confident communication in English with logical structure to answers
- Genuine motivation for aviation and Flydubai specifically, not a generic pilot story
- Self-awareness: ability to discuss strengths, weaknesses, and personal growth honestly
- Situational composure: candidates who look calm and organised on camera tend to score better
Video interview tips
- Structure every answer: Situation / Context → What you did → Result / Learning
- Record practice videos and watch them back; eliminate filler words
- Dress professionally, keep the background clean, and let light fall on your face
- Speak at a measured pace: rushing is penalised far more than brief pauses
Preparation tip
Prepare 2–3 real stories from your life (academic, sport, leadership, teamwork) that demonstrate decision under pressure, handling failure, working in a team, and motivation for aviation. These cover 80% of standard video interview questions across all Gulf airline cadet programs.
Flydubai In-Person Assessment in Dubai
Shortlisted candidates are invited to Dubai for the final assessment: a repeat of selected assessments in a supervised environment, a panel interview, and medical clearance.
Panel interview
Three areas of focus for the panel:
- HR motivation: why aviation, why Flydubai, career goals
- Technical knowledge: basic aerodynamics, phases of flight, aviation weather, instruments
- Situational questions: handling pressure, unexpected problems, crew environment
Medical clearance
Candidates undergo a GCAA Class 1 medical examination at an approved Aviation Medical Centre in Dubai, including vision (including colour vision), hearing, cardiovascular screening, and general fitness checks.
Preparation tip
Book a pre-assessment DGCA or GCAA Class 1 medical check in India before travelling to Dubai: this eliminates medical surprises after you have already spent money on flights and accommodation. Common disqualifiers include uncorrected distant vision below 6/9, colour blindness, and significant cardiovascular findings.

Flydubai Pilot Salary: Second Officer and Beyond
A Flydubai cadet joins as a 2B Second Officer on about AED 22,465 a month (roughly ₹5 lakh) during the 6-month initial training, rising to about AED 40,000 a month (roughly ₹9 lakh) after training. UAE salaries are tax-free. Benefits include medical insurance, 36 days of annual paid leave, concessional tickets, an end-of-service benefit and pilot income protection. Rupee figures are approximate and change with the exchange rate.
Compare with pilot salary in India and Emirates and international pilot salary.
The Emirates Flow-Up Pathway (Flydubai to Emirates)
Because Flydubai is co-owned by Emirates, it is widely known as one of the most direct routes into Emirates for international pilots. Understanding this pathway matters for long-term career planning.
Flydubai Cadet
Ab Initio training → Second Officer on Boeing 737
Emirates First Officer / Captain
After 5-year bond + 3,000 hrs on 737 + clean record
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Contract obligation | 5-year bond with Flydubai post type-rating |
| Flow-up to Emirates | Requires full 5-year contract completion + minimum 3,000 hours on Boeing 737 (FO or Captain) + good standing (no incidents, violations, or negative reports) |
| Flow-up to Qatar / Etihad | Possible after 2,000 hrs on 737; early termination of the Flydubai contract may attract a USD 36,000 penalty |
| Entry salary (2B Second Officer) | ~AED 22,465/month (~USD 6,100) during 6-month initial training; rises to ~AED 40,000/month (~USD 11,000) post-training |
| Benefits | Medical insurance, 36 days annual paid leave, concessional tickets, end-of-service benefit, pilot income protection |
Important consideration
The flow-up pathway to Emirates is not guaranteed. It is a recognised, common route that requires completion of the full bond and a clean service record. Cadets who under-perform or have incidents during their Flydubai service will not qualify. Read the bond and penalty terms carefully before signing the training contract.
Flydubai Cadet Preparation Roadmap
A phased plan to be genuinely ready, not just eligible, when applications reopen.
Build the basics
- Begin daily mental maths practice (speed, distance, time, fuel calculations, unit conversions)
- Complete a GCAA/DGCA Class 1 medical assessment in India to identify potential disqualifiers early
- Build basic physics knowledge: Newton’s Laws, Bernoulli’s Principle, principles of flight, basic meteorology
- Install a joystick and practice with flight simulator software (X-Plane, MSFS) to build a psychomotor baseline
Practise the tests
- Practise aptitude test modules: logical, numerical, verbal reasoning, spatial orientation
- Practise psychomotor/coordination tasks specifically: smooth sustained control is what is assessed
- Prepare your aviation motivation story: genuine, specific, structured
- Set up a neutral video recording environment and practise 3-minute video responses
Finalise and polish
- Compile and attest all documents: transcripts, certificates, passport photos
- Research Flydubai’s network, fleet, values, and recent news; be specific in your answers
- Begin IELTS preparation if your English has not been formally assessed
- Register for Pilots Academy’s ADAPT / psychometric preparation program and mock interview sessions
Flydubai Interview Questions to Expect
Ten practice questions, each with a pointer on how to structure your answer.
Tell me about yourself. Why do you want to be a pilot?
Structure: background → aviation journey → why Flydubai specifically.
Why Flydubai and not another airline?
Your answer must show genuine knowledge of Flydubai: Boeing 737 fleet, network, Emirates flow-up, growth trajectory, not a generic aviation answer.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Honest answer: Second Officer → First Officer at Flydubai → potential Emirates flow-up. Show that you understand the pathway.
What are your greatest strengths?
Pick two: precision, composure under pressure, teamwork. Give a real example for each.
Tell me about a time you failed. What did you learn?
Use a real story. Show a growth mindset, not defensiveness.
What are the four forces of flight?
Be ready to explain how they interact in a climb versus level flight.
What is Bernoulli’s Principle and how does it relate to lift?
Give a short, structured answer: definition → principle → application.
What does a pitot-static system measure?
Be ready to explain what happens if the pitot tube is blocked.
What is VMC and IMC flying?
Define both clearly and concisely before elaborating further if asked.
What is CRM? Why is it critical in a two-person cockpit?
Explain Crew Resource Management and its role in safe, effective multi-crew operations.
Preparation tip
For every technical question, give a short, structured answer: definition → principle → application. Do not over-explain. If you do not know, say so clearly and offer what you do know: panels respect honesty far more than bluffing.
